Monk Bodhi Dharma

Monk Bodhi Dharma is a small and warm cafe in Balaclava. Named after the Indian monk who is credited for the physical training of monks at the Shaolin Monastery and also foundering the concept of Zen. This eatery which opening in 2010 has been creating delicious vegetarian and vegan food for all those who find it.

You would be forgiven for walking down Calisle St and completely missing it, as it’s tucked away just off the street, down a small laneway.

Although Monk Bodhi Dharma is well known for their specialty coffee, the food is unique in it’s own right. With a twist given to most options, you can have food that is well and truly out of the box.

From the Hungry Jimbo, which isn’t your oridinary avocado option. With the base of polenta bread, smeared with vegemite, avocado, almond feta, roasted tomatoes and drizzled with red chilli oil, this will be one you come back for time and time again.

For the mushroom lover, Monk Bodhi Dharma has (in our opinion) the best mushroom dish in Melbourne. Roasted king oyster, shitake, oyster & swiss brown mushrooms on house made pumpkin and polenta bread, topped with almond feta, thyme and red chilli oil. It’s an ode to mushrooms you need to indulge in.

Monk Bodhi Dharma has two sister cafes in Richmond, with Admiral Cheng Ho and South Yarra, with Bayano The Rebel.
