Torpe Cafe is the new Malvern hotspot that you didn’t know you were missing. A row of 3 shops on Wattletree Road is the new home of this popular new cafe. Sitting in the middle of the 3 shops, Torpe Cafe is the newest venue addition to Adrian Davis (The Third Day & Day Of The Dead) and Zachary Riggs (Drugstore Espresso and Two Wrongs in South Yarra) growing list of successful cafes and bars.
There are big plans in store with the takeover of the buildings either side of Torpe Cafe. One side will be a deli corner store and the other a woodfired pizza/pasta restaurant. Upstairs will join together to be one big wine bar, which should be open as soon as next week. Out the back will be another large area with a focus on providing the local kindergarten kids a space to learn about where their food comes from. A veggie patch, chickens and a pig will be located in the 200sqm back garden.
Everything in the Torpe Cafe has been made from scratch and using already existing materials. The tables and large feature lights have been made out of floorboards, the marble has been hand cut for the space and the light fixtures have been up-cycled.
You can easily grab a bite to eat with any of your friends at Torpe Cafe, all dietary requirements have been taken care of by Chef Bowdy Tolhopf. There is a large selection of vegan food on offer, and it is tasty.
Vegan-friendly menu items include the Golden Gaytime Pancakes with salted butterscotch caramel and coyo chocolate ice cream. Matcha Waffle with pink coconut yoghurt, hibiscus ice cream and raspberry crumb. Soul bowl with beetroot hummus, wok tossed greens, zucchini ribbons, kimchi kraut, cauliflower rice, miso baked pumpkin and lotus chips.
