The owners of Shop 225 Lorenzo Tron and Roberto Davoli have just opened their 2nd restaurant. Il Caminetto, a Pasta Bar and Pizzeria. Joining the successful Italian duo is chef Piero, he has a very big and interesting background in top restaurants internationally including Italy, Brazil, and Australia.
Located in Moonee Ponds, Il Caminetto restaurant is larger and can seat 80 people. Later on, the courtyard will also be opened up for seating. Beautifully designed, the large marble bench can’t be missed as you walk in. Each of the design elements has been carefully selected by Lorenzo’s wife Teresa.
The menu is large and over half of the menu can be made vegan upon request. The vegan cheese, vegan sausage, and the hazelnut spread are all made in-house by Local Craft (also owned by Lorenzo and Roberto).
The menu is long and begins with Stuzzichini (snacks) and Insalate (Salads). It then moves on to Pastas, Seconds and pizzas. Under the large drinks menu is the dessert menu with 3 vegan options. Nutella pizza, Nutella Calzone and Tiramisu.
As per Shop 225, the vegan pizza and pasta are very much like the real thing, and you would be forgiven for thinking they had given you real meat and cheese. All of the pasta is made in-house including the vegan tortellini filled with potato and leek.
At Il Caminetto they have also developed a vegan version of Nduja, a traditional Italian sausage, which they place on their pizza and is, in a word, delicious.
