What even is a Burger Shurger? Great question. It is a recently opened restaurant in Elsternwick that serves burgers with an Indian twist. This is the first venue for Payal Bisht who has come from an IT background. Payal is passionate about cooking and wanted to open up a restaurant. She noticed that there was a saturated market for burgers, but they were all the same.
When planning Burger Shurger Payal worked with Consulting Chef Stuart Thompson and Glen Bagnara previously from Chester White Restaurant. Most of the menu uses adapted homemade recipes which are North Indian inspired. The restaurant itself is quite funky with neon lights and murals.
Don’t let the name fool you, it is not just burgers at Burger Shurger. On the vegan-friendly menu, you will find sides such as onion rings, masala fries, Gobi 65 (cauliflower wings), crispy chili potatoes and a bun pakora. Specials include a kidney bean curry burrito and Chilli mushroom bao. Of course, there are a couple of vegan Indian burgers as well.
The most popular dishes being the Vada Pav – curried mashed potato burger and the Gobi 65. You can also enjoy craft beers and wine while you dine.
We recommend taking a trip southside and treating your tastebuds to some Indian burgers.
