Cassia Cafe resides in the newest multi-vendor space, Urban Ground Mordialloc. The plant-based cafe was a conscious decision to ensure the ground was offering nutritionally dense foods for the community they are a part of. Head Chef Dan Mandarano and the team are aiming to create a menu that inspires their customers to think about plant-based food outside of the box. Transforming fresh produce into an experience. Which they are certainly doing well.
Walking through the venue you get a feel for the scope of the total project, from a large outdoor area with play equipment for kids to their very own garden. Although the garden is in its infancy, this allows Cassia Cafe to support local growers who practice sustainable and regenerative agriculture.
The standard menu is 100% plant-based, with the option to add eggs and dairy milk if the need arises. We would encourage you to move sideways on that and enjoy what plant-based food can be. As the dishes sing loudly on their own.
From burgers to wellness bowls, there are plenty of options, which are available all day. However, there are a few dishes of note, that should not be avoided.
The Urban Legend is your typical big breakfast, with a twist. A medley of charred broccolini cooked over an open charcoal grill, kale, house-baked beans, avo, swiss browns, plant-based hollandaise, sourdough, and the highlight of the dish, the sweet potato hash. It’s one of those elements on the plate that you would drive a distance to get. However, it was the Scram Scram Thank You M’aam that will ignite your passion for plant-based food all over again. A combination of scrambled tofu, plant-based meatballs, sugo, basil pesto, cashew parmesan, and rainbow chard on sourdough.
Go and enjoy some time outdoors while eating some great vegan food.
