Healthy Self Co. in Yarraville opened in 2014. Then, husband and wife team Zerin and Scott English took over the cafe from their friends in 2016. This is the first cafe for both, Zerin was previously (and still dabbles in) photography. Scott works for Four Pillars Gin, another amazing Melbourne based business.
The menu was changed and there is a big focus on health and nutrition. “The mission is simple: serve delicious, nourishing, everyday food. Wholefoods fuel the body so we can function to our true potential. Feel good food will always keep you coming back for more!”
The Healthy Self Co. venue is a little oasis in the inner west, with bright colours and a chill vibe. With plenty of seating inside or out the back, it is a great place to meet friends.
All meals start with a vegan base and a lot remain that way. “A place you can bring your boyfriend or husband” says Zerin.
As mentioned, most of the menu at Healthy Self Co is vegan. So you are spoilt for choice! The menu is split into breakfast, bowls and betweens. There are almost too many things to list. On offer is everything from acai bowls and pancakes to Nepali Thali Dahl. Smaller bites include a vegan “smoked salmon” Lox bagel with vegan goats cheese, capers and red onion on a rye bagel.
Important to mention, Healthy Self Co has one of the most realistic vegan eggs in Melbourne. Along with your favourite halloumi by Hello Friend Foods, and they make tempeh bacon. So, what are you waiting for?
