Locals of the northern suburbs have a reason to celebrate. Freshly opened bar The Fancy Parrot specialises in boutique wine, craft beer and cocktails. With a wide range of alcoholic selections for the plant-based, they have also ensured you don’t leave hungry, with a vegan selection of finger-licking good menu items.
This lively, colourful wine bar has brought new energy to the space, with the new owner, Alistair Smith, deciding to put vibrant paintings on the wall and add plenty of cushions to make it cosy. Like a parrot, the feel is colourful and social. “The idea of this place is to have seriously good food and booze in a casual atmosphere.” says Alistair.
With 5 out of 10 dishes being vegan, Alistair and the head chef, Roshan Karkee at The Fancy Parrot have placed emphasis on making good food that everyone can enjoy. With the future plans to make the vegetarian options vegan as well.
Once you’re all set, seated and you’ve got a glass of wine in your hand, you can start your nibbling feast with a trio of house-made dips with toasted bread (the spicy dip wins!). Deep-fried zucchini flowers with bold and zippy homemade romesco sauce to bring that refreshing and satisfying feel. However, the star of the evening was a creamy mixed mushroom medley with fresh herbs and crispy polenta chips on the side.
If you’re into funky style, good booze and vegan nibbles, go and check these guys out next time you’re around.
