Half a metre of vegan pizza. Now that we have your attention, let’s talk about a cool Italian eatery based in Elwood. When we say cool, Figo literally translates from the Italian to ‘cool’ in English. And that’s exactly what this pizzeria e – friggitoria (Italian for food from the fryer) is.
This traditional Italian eatery is from the team behind La Svolta in Hampton. The duo of Valerio Calabro and Andrea Pagani, who continue to serve up some of the best vegan Italian food Southside. When they first opened in 2016 they took over a previous 10 seat takeaway pizza shop on the Brighton Road strip. Then, in 2017 the restaurant expanded to the shop next door. Now, the modern Figo restaurant is a 35 seat cantina with a distinctive illustrated character easily recognised from the highway.
Just like their Hampton restaurant, they have a dedicated vegan night on Monday’s. The menu changes weekly but you can expect arancini, polenta, vegan pizza and pasta and of course dessert! Some of the most popular dishes are Bruschetta Tartufo, bruschetta with truffled mushrooms. Crepes Vegana, chickpea crepes stuffed with vegetable ratatouille and the
Gnocchi Sorrentina, house-made potato gnocchi with tomato sugo, vegan mozzarella & fresh basil. Oh, and deep fried pizza dough, if you’re still hungry.
Most importantly, vegan cheese and vegan salami are on offer for all pizza and pasta. And, if you give plenty of notice, they can make the half metre pizza gluten free as well. Enjoy on your own or bring some friends, no judgement here!
