Moorabbin’s newest restaurant, Le Feu, is a traditional modern-casual French-Vietnamese establishment by Kevin Nguyen. However, it’s not your regular restaurant, it carries a very significant title which you wouldn’t realise if you weren’t told about it. Le Feu is one of the rare restaurant’s that have been certified as completely gluten-free by Coeliac Australia. Allowing anyone with gluten allergies the confidence to eat with abandonment and try literally everything. This is the 5th restaurant by Nguyen, with plans for a further two to open in 2022, one of which he plans to be completely vegan.
Kevin trained to be a chef through 5-star hotel restaurants in Asia, and upon entry into Australia took up a position at Shannon Bennet’s Jardin Tan where he furthered his techniques, ultimately leading to him stepping out into Le Feu and creating an impressive menu of French-style slow-cooking Vietnamese cuisine. It’s quite a mouthful, but it certainly delivers in flavour and aroma.
While the menu is not completely vegan, there are plenty of flavour-packed plant-based dishes that will leave you making reservations for next time. If you have any other food intolerances, they can be catered to as well. There’s no dairy, gluten or peanuts to be found in the restaurant, whatsoever, and many of the dishes a FODMAP friendly.
“We specifically cater for people with gluten-related health issues like Celiac disease, Non-Celiac Gluten Sensitivity, gluten intolerance, gluten allergies & people on a FODMAP diet.
We’re the only Vietnamese gluten-free restaurant in Australia & we are accredited with Coeliac Australia.” says Kevin.
Le Feu’s menu is not only inclusive; it packs a punch too. Dishes like KFC Krispy fried cauliflower, Feu’s choux bao, the crying tiger salad and aubergine curry jump off the menu. But the hero of Le Feu is the crispy fried stuffed tofu. A Hoi An style stuffing of mushrooms and spices in tofu that is battered and deep-fried to perfection.
For the gluten-intolerant diners, it may have been a long time since you had bao, and this is a great chance to have something very unique. The Feu’s Choux is something special, crispy fried stuffed tofu, pickle, Vietnamese herbs, vegan chilli mayo, sesame seeds, topped with a generous amount of BBQ sauce.
