Open just 4 weeks, Little Green on Chapel is the new kid on the block. In a brand new building at the Yarra River end of Chapel Street, this new cafe is bringing healthy options to the locals. Owner Katherine Sampson also has Hello Sam, the burger restaurant, on the other side of the street.
Katherine noticed that people were only coming in for burgers on cheat days or weekends. “as most of the people in the area are healthy eaters” and there wasn’t a dedicated place to get great coffee nearby. She wanted to offer a place that had vegan and vegetarian options as a healthy alternative. And a place just so happened to become available across the street from their popular restaurant.
Katherine is no novice to the healthy eating game. She founded Healthy Habits in 1992 which grew to 43 stores nationwide, before selling the chain to Dymocks Books. Her new cafe Little Green not only serves food but a small selection of things to buy such as keep cups, reusable shopping bags, who gives a crap toilet paper and dog treats.
Hello Sam Burger Head Chef, Stewart Anderson was then given the task of designing the Little Green menu which includes Vegan wellness bowls, Sweet bowls, Vegan Jaffles, Vegan smoothies, and fresh juice blasts.
About 90% of the menu is vegan, which opens up the choices a lot. The bowls include the Mexican Bowl, Middle Eastern Bowl with fava bean falafel, Super Green Bowls and 3 sweet bowls. (Try the Snickers bowl). There are 7 options of toasted jaffles, and they are only $7. Great for a quick bite on the run! You would be forgiven to be confused about the vegan cheese in the jaffles. Top pick is the vegan chili beans and cheese.
