When an experienced restaurateur opens up a new venue, you know the standard will be high. With Mr Brownie Curry Pub there is no exception.
Mr Brownie Curry Pub is a four-storey hotel/bar/British-Indian curry pub. The latest venture from the owner of Horn Please and Daughter in law has it all – there is a bottle shop on the ground floor, a colourful main pub area on the first floor where you can grab a bite and get a cocktail, a beer garden at the back with a stunning view of South Melbourne that transforms into a party with good tunes played by a DJ in warm summer nights.
The interior is quirky and colourful and with so much choice with the rooms and various vibes, it’s a hard decision to make on which floor to stay.
Whether you want to have dinner in the booth or watch the sunset with a cocktail in hand on the rooftop or maybe even hold a private party in a very dark and very fancy Boom Boom Room (first you need to find out where this room is!), Mr Brownie Curry Pub has got you covered.
Onion bhaji with mint sauce is always a good starter. It’s crispy, it’s soft, it makes you want to eat more. Spicy chickpea curry was rich in flavour and felt authentic. Recommended – wash it down with Mr Singh gin and rose cocktail (beware, it’s pink but it’s not too sweet, quite bitter even – yum!!).
Creamy vegetable curry with coconut milk that’s so tasty and aromatic that you’ll be coming back for more. The newest addition to the plant based options of the menu is a butter chicken parma that you will need to try out for yourself.
When you can’t decide whether you’re craving indian feed or a beer party, Mr Brownie is the place for you.
