Power Plant

The Details

Johanna Maguire, in partnership with husband, opened Power Plant 2.5 years ago in Templestowe. After living in the United States where it was a vegan mecca for a long time, and returning to a smaller vegan scene in Melbourne 7 years ago, Maguire decided it was just too big of an opportunity to give up. The space was available in her family-run centre and she was given use of the “virgin kitchen” and restaurant.

This is the first cafe for Johanna but she has always been a foodie and a vegan for 23 years. Even their two kids are vegan. “I wanted to live life in a kinder way, healthy, and better for the animals.”  It was a bit of a risk opening something out in the suburbs that is only vegan, but the response has been great! With half of her customers not vegan at all.

The Power Plant kitchen produces a whole foods menu, not one bit of faux meat in sight. Everything is made from scratch. They just want tasty food that just so happens to be vegan. Some popular dishes on the menu are the scrambled tofu for breakfast, french toast and for lunch, the Super Greens and burgers are always a hit. For the protein conscious, the omelette and power bowl is a good pick.

If you are in the Northern suburbs check Power Plant out, the restaurant is large and has a sunny deck area to enjoy.
