Bricklane Bagels, a nod to the birthplace of bagels in the Brick Lane district of London, which has been sold since the middle of the 19th century. Bagels are a classic for good reason, these tasty boiled and then baked treats are the perfect snack, which can easily be transformed into a meal. Knowing the versatility of the bagel and the landscape of Melbourne’s coffee scene, Darko Kmet saw an opportunity to pair the two and focus on quality ingredients to deliver a truly enjoyable bagel experience.
Bricklane Bagels is situated right in the heart of Clarendon St in South Melbourne, with an open space for the perfect location to sit under the shade of a large tree and drink your long black coffee, with beans from Axil Coffee Roaster, and a quality new york style bagel smothered with vegan cream cheese. The vegan cream cheese is something special, even we questioned it’s legitimacy because it’s just too good. There is no extra charge for the vegan options either, they simply swap out the cheese for vegan cheese. Pretty simple really. It’s the same for the Gluten-Free crowd, you simply say it, and it is so.
There are plenty of vegan options for the sweet tooth and the savoury amoungst us. From the traditional vegan cream cheese bagel to the open avocado, tomato and vegan feta, drizzled in lemon oil. But if you are feeling a little more decadent, the peanut butter and raspberry jam bagel is a thing of beauty and will have you taking the second half away to snack on later. Yes, they are that filling.
