Brussel sprouts are a delicious vegetable that can be cooked in many ways. They also happen to be one of the healthiest foods on earth, so it is important to make sure they are prepared properly. One of my favorite methods is pan-frying them with olive oil and garlic until they are crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, then covered with veef bacon bits as a garnish. It’s an easy way to enjoy this delicious dish!
The secret to this dish is the caramelisation on the Brussel sprouts, which takes a little bit of time and care. You need to place your pan on low heat and have your cut sprouts facing down against the pan. Cover them in a generous amount of olive oil, cover with the lid and let them fry off until they are crispy on the bottom.
The next part is to add a nice salty, fatty part to the dish and bring it up to the next level. Which the Veef Bacon Bits do nicely, with the added benefit of them being gluten-free. They bring this dish to life!

Brussel Sprouts with Vegan Bacon Bits
- 12 brussel sprouts
- 1/4 pkt Veef Bacon Bits
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 2 tbsp olive oil
Wash your brussel sprouts and slice in half
Place in a large bowl and coat with the garlic and onion powder, followed by 1 tbsp of the olive oil and toss well.
Place a large pan on low heat and place the remaining olive oil in the pan.
When the pan is hot, place the brussel sprouts cut side down into in the pan and cover with the lid.
Check to make sure they are not burning but after approx 5-6 mins they should have a nice char or caramelisation on the bottom.
At this stage add in the Veef Bacon Bits and toss with the brussel sprouts.
Cook on medium-high for another 3-4 mins or until the bacon bits are crispy.
