The Southside just scored its first vegan cafe of the year. Bowl Me Over is a fresh-faced plant-based cafe in Brighton. Mother and daughter duo Fiona Brill & Steph Thompson recently relocated back to Melbourne from Brisbane where they previously have owned a cafe. They have joined forces with Linda Weatherlake who you may know from vegan fashion retailer Neena (recently closed). All 3 are passionate about nourishing plant-based food and want to introduce people to what they love.
The trio wanted to create health and nourishing fast food with so much flavour that no animal products were needed.
“We all know that plant based food can be so incredibly delicious, wholesome and filling if done correctly and we want to introduce people to that side of plant based food. We make a conscious effort to not use the words vegan or plant based in any of our branding to encourage an open mindedness amongst our customers.”
The menu at Bowl Me Over is simple, healthy, and delish. The fresh produce is mostly organic and only one dish that has a small amount of sesame oil in it. On offer is a 99% gluten-free menu of bowls, toast, and smoothies. Signature bowls include sesame mushroom, chickpea curry, burrito, and tofu satay. Or you can build your own from the lineup of fresh veggies. Acai bowls are also on offer for those who like something sweet.
In a few short weeks, you can dine in the courtyard and enjoy a beer and a bowl after a long bayside ride or day of work.
